Our approach to privacy
VerseLingo ("the app", "we") is a language-learning app that helps you learn English through Bible verses. We designed VerseLingo to collect as little information about you as possible. The app requires no account and no registration, and we never sell your data or show you ads.
Information we process
On your device and in your iCloud
Your learning data—including completed lessons, vocabulary and review progress, streaks, badges, settings, learning goals and onboarding preferences, and any optional display name you enter—is stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, it is also synced through Apple's CloudKit to the private database of your own iCloud account so it can follow you across your devices. This private database belongs to your Apple Account and is not accessible to us.
Some onboarding choices may reflect devotional habits, learning goals, or personal challenges. They are used only inside the app to personalize your experience and, if iCloud is enabled, sync through your private iCloud database. We do not receive these choices or send them to analytics providers.
Pseudonymous usage analytics
When you use the app, we automatically send limited product-usage events to PostHog, hosted in the European Union. Examples include the app being opened, an onboarding step being reached or completed, a lesson or feature being used, and a purchase screen being shown. PostHog may also receive basic technical information such as a random installation identifier, IP address, device model, operating system and app version, locale, and time zone. We use this information to understand reliability, feature usage, and the learning funnel.
We do not send your display name, questionnaire answers, or text you type to PostHog. We do not identify you by name or email, create a PostHog person profile, record your screen, use analytics for advertising, or track you across other companies' apps or websites. See the PostHog Privacy Policy.
Purchases
Payments for VerseLingo Premium are processed entirely by Apple. We use RevenueCat to verify subscription status; RevenueCat receives a randomly generated identifier and transaction information from Apple, but never your name or payment details. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
Content delivery
Lessons and audio are downloaded from our content server, delivered via Cloudflare. These requests may create standard network and security logs, such as IP address, request time, requested file, and device or browser information. We and Cloudflare use these logs to deliver content, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and keep the service secure. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Support communications
If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, and attachments, together with ordinary email headers. We use it only to respond, investigate the issue, protect the service, and keep any records reasonably needed for follow-up or legal obligations.
Notifications
Learning, streak, and return reminders are optional and scheduled locally on your device after you allow notifications. The app's settings control your daily learning reminder. You can disable all VerseLingo notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
Retention
Learning data and preferences remain on your device and, if enabled, in your private iCloud database until you reset or delete them. We keep pseudonymous analytics only for as long as reasonably needed to measure product performance and improve the app, then delete or aggregate them under our provider settings. Purchase and entitlement records are kept as needed to provide Premium access and meet accounting, fraud-prevention, and legal requirements. Support messages and security logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above.
Your choices and rights
- Reset learning progress: Settings → Reset Learning Progress removes lesson, vocabulary, review, streak, and achievement progress across synced devices. It keeps profile, language, onboarding, reminder, and Premium preferences so the app remains configured.
- Manage iCloud data: You can disable iCloud sync for VerseLingo or delete VerseLingo's stored iCloud data using Apple's iCloud settings. Disabling sync alone does not delete data already stored in iCloud.
- Remove local data: Deleting the app removes its local data from that device. It does not by itself delete data already stored in iCloud or cancel an Apple subscription.
- Privacy requests: Contact us to ask about access, correction, or deletion where applicable. Because analytics are not connected to a name, email, or account, we may be unable to associate past analytics events with a particular person.
Children
VerseLingo is intended for a general audience and is not directed specifically to children under 13. It does not offer user accounts, public profiles, or social posting. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent us personal information through support, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Service providers and international processing
Apple, PostHog, RevenueCat, Cloudflare, and our email providers process limited information for the purposes described above. Depending on your location and the provider, information may be processed in a country other than your own, subject to the provider's safeguards and applicable law.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect the information we process. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Meaningful changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
